Frequently Asked Questions
The Next Gen NCLEX® exam, also known as the National Council Licensure Examination, is a standardized exam that determines whether or not a candidate is ready to start practicing as an entry-level nurse after successfully completing an accredited nursing degree program.
The Next Gen NCLEX®: Case study question types include drag and drop, drop-down, multiple choice, multiple responses (select all that apply), highlight questions and standalone question types that include bowtie-type questions. All test-takers are allowed up to five hours to complete the exam and must answer questions related to three case studies with a minimum of 85 test items and a maximum of 150 items. You must complete at least 85 questions above the passing standard to be successful.
To pass the Next Gen NCLEX®, you have to demonstrate that your level of competency is above the minimum standard. As you answer questions correctly, you'll be given increasingly difficult questions, and you will need to work your way up in difficulty so the Next Gen NCLEX® algorithm can identify your passing-level competency with 95% confidence. Answering questions correctly will require both nursing content knowledge and critical thinking skills; we recommend you study with a mix of content, strategy, and practice.
